The 2013 Canadian Agri-Marketing Association (CAMA) awards took place last night at the historic Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City to recognize the best in Canadian agri-marketing for their achievements.
Merkato client, the Alberta Barley Commission (ABC), was in the running for top spot in the media relations category, and I was fortunate enough to attend the gala along with my colleague Patrick Burke.
The evening was an amazing showcase of la crème de la crème of agri-marketing. We met inspiring people, enjoyed a delicious dinner, and stayed up through the wee hours of the morning celebrating with everyone.
But best of all…we won! The Alberta Barley Commission’s ‘GoBarley’ launch from this past spring was named best media relations campaign.
This was ABC’s first time undertaking a major media relations campaign aimed at the consumer and the team at Merkato came up with a winning strategy. Together with the hard working folks at ABC, we hit it out of the park with more than 20 million media impression from coast to coast on television and radio shows and feature articles in daily newspapers. You can check out our case study of the campaign (here).
Linda Whitworth, ABC’s Manager of Market Development and campaign spokesperson, and ABC board member Glenn Logan were in attendance to accept the award and revel in the evening’s festivities. This was ABC’s first CAMA award, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say this won’t be their last.
Being recognized by CAMA is very meaningful for us as Merkato’s agri-marketing roots run deep. Steve Skidd, President of Merkato, is a proud graduate of the Ontario Agriculture College at the University of Guelph and Merkato’s staff have worked for many years with a wide variety of agricultural clients. All of us at Merkato have a deep kinship and respect with farmers coast to coast. Telling the stories of the farmers in impactful, creative ways is something we pride ourselves on at Merkato.
I also want to congratulate our tablemates for the evening on their wins: the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers and our new friend from North Carolina Linda from Arysta Life Science.
I’m currently sitting in the airport waiting to fly home – a little tired… but very happy and proud of what our team accomplished and continues to accomplish every day.
Clear some space in the foyer…we have a CAMA award to display!!
